Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"What made you choose to fight?" Earl Varima asks curiously. "It could be more lucrative than being a stable boy, but it's much more risky."

"It's somethin' Ah'm good at," Corey shrugs. "Plus, mah Daddy used ta be an adventurer, and a part of me always wanted ta follow in those footsteps. And... Ah s'pose Ah don't wanna be just another commoner, y'know?"

"It's always worth striving to be exceptional," Gahez nods slowly. "And if you have a talent, why not use it?"

"Ah think so, at least. Ain't nothin' wrong with acceptin' yer place in life, but if ye've got enough reason, ya shouldn't let anythin' stop ya. Ah mean, look at Kalbio. Came from the same place Ah did, but now he's a noble."

"I attended Sinora Academy," Adelaide answers with a smile. "In addition to the education, they hosted several competitive events among the students, such as fencing and debate, so it was a wonderful period of time."
Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"Ah, Sinora, I've heard of it," Lady Clement smiles to Adelaide. "Best school for young women in the country they say. And excellent for networking as well."
Earl Varima smiles wide at the mention of Kalbio. "That man is a prodigy, I'm delighted to hear he will be joining our ranks. I look forward to meeting him more in the future, and hopefully seeing more of his work adorn the halls of houses across the country."

"Yes, I met many like-minded young women in my time there," Adelaide answers.
Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"Always valuable," Lady Clement nods. "Too many with good ideas have learned the hard way that they need allies to help execute those plans. Unless you're Princess Eutropia, then you just stab the people who disagree with you," she quips the last with a wry grin.

"Ah can't say Ah've seen any of his work ta comment on it, but he's a swell guy," Corey nods. "Ah'm sure the folks of Breezy Creek'll be in good hands under him."

Adelaide laughs. "It seems to be working remarkably well for her, too," she answers, mirroring the lady's grin. "Perhaps that will become the new trend."
Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"They already assuredly were under the watchful gaze of Baron Okerra," Earl Varima points out. "But soon-to-be Lord Kalbio will bring a personal touch to his home. I'd wager that the people of Breezy Creek are likely to be some of the most fortunate peasants in the land."
"It would be entertaining at least, though I much prefer actually discussing ideas on their merits, rather than resolving them through violence," Lady Clement chuckles. "Still, I suppose it was necessary to get some people to even listen to her to begin with."

"Oh, Ah'm sure," Corey nods. "Baron Okerra's a swell guy, But Ah agree, the personal touch helps. Part of why Kallen runs so smooth is that yer uncle lives local, so we can take problems straight to him if we need ta, and he knows us all well enough ta really care, even if it's the small stuff."

"Did you know my father initially wanted to give this Senate seat to my uncle? Not because he didn't believe in me, he just thought experience was best. But my uncle turned it down, he likes governing on the local level too much, and he can't do that when he has to spend so much time here in Oppara," Earl Varima explains with a smile. "I try to make sure that my administrators who handle things when I'm here are from the area themselves. It's not as good as me paying personal attention, but I would also be doing my people a disservice if I were to not use the position I have to advocate for peace on their behalf."

"Ah can believe it. Count Varima does good work fer us, and it'd be awful sad if he weren't able to. What you do's important though, sir, and Ah'm real grateful for it, even if Ah ain't one of yer subjects."

"Thank you for your kind words, Mr. Crawford," Earl Varima smiles. "Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one arguing for peace and diplomacy, so it's nice to know that it's appreciated. But, as pleasant as this conversation has been, I'd best spread myself around so that I can do just that. If you ever find yourself around my lands, Mr. Crawford, do feel free to stop by. And give my uncle my regards." He bows to the younger man while he says the last.

Adelaide nods, a little pensive. "One can only hope the necessity will fade over time, I suppose. I do agree discussions based on merit are more compelling as a general concept. It's especially interesting to speak with others and learn more about what gives an idea merit to them, in my opinion. It seems there are often many paths to the same conclusion."
Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"Indeed. The perpetual question is how much of that reasoning to reveal. It helps others make petitions to you on lines that you might find appealing, but it also makes you easier to manipulate," Lady Clement muses.

Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"Do you find being aware that others are trying to appeal to your own reasoning makes manipulation easier to manage?" Adelaide asks, seeing no reason to avoid candidness. "I was discussing a matter with someone earlier who simply asked what my personal reasons were for an opinion, after I had appealed to his preferred reasoning."
Re: War for the Crown Gameplay Part 1
"I try to be aware that everyone wants something out of a conversation," Lady Clement advises. "If you can determine what they want, you can determine whether and how they're trying to manipulate you. If their intent isn't benign, however, I doubt they would be that forthright."

"I try to be," Lady Clement smirks. "In any case, this has been quite the interesting conversation, Dame Adelaide, and I wish you the best in your future endeavours." Lady Clement then curtsies and turns to head up to the gallery.

"Ah. Sorry if this is prying, Dame Sarina, but it strikes me that your opinions are atypical of your house," Landgrave Jarlbjorn remarks with a cocked eyebrow.

"Certainly true," Sarina agrees. "If it were up to my house, I would not be at this event. They would rather have me married off to a suitable match, the better to consolidate their power, and maintain their influence. Fortunately for myself, I had the good grace to make friends who sympathized with my situation, and who were able to provide support when I needed it, to go against the wishes of my family."

"Those sound like the types of friends that you want to have around here," Ogvai comments. "I won't ask who they are, but I bet I know the broader group they come from."
